Coastline: Plum Island to Portland, ME

I drove to Maine coastline several times, and it seemed nice, but I was never impressed.

I lived in beautiful Santa Barbara for seven years, and when it comes to assessing a place on its natural beauty, I am more of a "meh!" than a "wow!". I was in the wow camp after my low flight over Maine coastline.

I flew from Beverly, over Plum Island, then along the coast between eight hundred and one thousand feet, to Portland. I was VFR, and decided to be not disturbed by flight following. It was one of the most memorable flying expedition for me, and I got some pretty amazing photographs of the natural beauty of the coastline. Many of these pictures are hanging in my living room in eight by twelve frames.

Flying so low, you can see people walking their dogs on beaches. 

One thing to watch out for is the P-67 prohibited area in Kennebunkport.  You cannot fly over Bush's retreat in Kennbunkport at or below one thousand feet. It is best to check the TFR for expansion of this area when a Bush is present at the retreat.
